McGonigle Hall, Temple University: Interstate Realty sent some of their players off to college with a nice parting gift; a summer championship trophy. They were able to hold on and defeat the Diamond Medics 91-84 to win the 11/12 Grade Division of the Sonnny Hill Community Involvement Summer League at McGonigle Hall Friday night.
Interstate Realty was led by Bradley Wannamaker from Roman Catholic, who played aggresively on offense with slashes to the basket, and Jermaine Washington from Imhotep, who set the tone early with well-timed jump shots and three-pointers. Ramone Moore added many crucial baskets for the team as well.
As has been a trend for most of the high schools games in this league, the first half was competitive, but the second half saw one team (in this case, Interstate Realty) pull away. The Medics never seemed able to get a good groove going in the game, despite tough play from multiple players, including Sammie Givens and Khalif Foster. In the end, the Medics just could not put together enough defense to stop Interstate Realty.
So Interstate Realty wins the 11/12th grade championship, and while some players move on to college play (and maybe next summer's college league) others will be back to defend the championship with pride.
