Girard College dominate Conwell-Egan 55-33 to advance in Girard Summer League Playoffs

Cheesman A Herrick Fieldhouse, Girard College - The Girard College Cavaliers wanted to start the playoffs of the summer league being held on their home court right - and that they did with a convincing, albeit sometimes sloppy 55-33 victory over the Conwell Egan Eagles.

Karon Reed of the Cavaliers led all scorers with 12 points including three tremendous dunks that got the team motivated and the crowd going. Terrell Candeleria chipped in 11, and John Johnson added 8 points.

The first half played out evenly, with both Girard and Conwell-Egan having trouble making shots and retaining possession. Hike Gyokchan of Conwell-Egan, the tallest player on the court who ended the game with 10 points, tried to carry the Eagles through the rough stretch with aggressive play and inside presence. It proved to be too little; Girard went on an early run to get a 21-14 lead and never looked back, turning the second half into a showcase of terrific slams and graceful layups.

The Cavaliers move on to the second round of the playoffs, which will be Wednesday at 6:15pm. Digitex-U Sports will be there to cover the game.
